Ex Prez John Mahama joins Gonja to mourn overlord Yagbonwura

In a post shared on Facebook, the Ex Prez wrote “Together with the main members, executives and members of the National Democratic Congress, I joined the sons and daughters of Gonja and the prayers on the third day of prayer for the late father and Lord of Gonjaland, Yagbonwura Sulemana Tuntumba Boresa, in Damango.

May God grant our late king Jannatul Firdaus”

The late Commander was called Yagbonwura in March 2010.

Before being appointed as Yagbonwura, he was the Head of the Traditional Region of Kusawgu Gonja with the skin name of Kusawguwura Sulemana Jakpa.

He is the son of Yapeiwura Bakari, the son of Yagbonwura Mahama of Kusawgu, and Mma Nyenbali Chiraba.

According to Gonja tradition and custom, Chief Sonyo will move to the Jakpa Palace in Damongo and serve as the Traditional Head of State and President while waiting for the new ruler.

Chief Sonyo will also lead the funeral process by Gonja customs and traditions until the burial of the master in the royal mausoleum for Gonja Kings in Mankuma, a town near Bole.

Mankuma is the burial place of the kings of the Gonja Kingdom.
