Ex-governor heads Yobe APC campaign council

Former Governor of Yobe State who is a senator representing Yobe East Senatorial District, Ibrahim Gaidam, has been appointed as the head of the All Progressives Congress (APC) State Campaign Council for the 2023 general election.

In a statement signed by the APC Secretary in the state, Abubakar Bakabe, the party said Mr. Gaidam will work with Mohammed Hassan, alias Dembu, who has been appointed Director General of the Campaign Council.

Until he defected to APC from PDP in February 2022, Mr. Hassan was Mr. Gaidam’s sworn political enemy.

Both politicians served in Mr. Ali’s administration as Finance Commissioner and Deputy Governor.

After Mr. Gaidam became governor in 2009 after the death of Mamman Ali, he did not appoint Mr. Hassan as a commissioner.

The 17-member Yobe State State Campaign Council for the 2023 general election also has Senate President Ahmad Lawan as its “alternative chairman.”

The statement added that the state governor, Mai Buni, will be the vice-chairman of the campaign council with his deputy, Idi Gubana, as the first vice-chairman, while Barma Shetima, the state trade commissioner, will be the secretary.

The board includes three other deputy directors-general, namely Lawan Shetima, Bello Kawuwa and Mohammad Nguru. The trio will be the deputy directors general of the three senatorial zones of the state.

Mr. Bakabe explained that “the leaders of the party carefully chose the above names because of the commitment, dedication, and trust placed in them.”

He expressed the party’s optimism to win the 2023 general election.

“The party is optimistic that the councilors will bring success to the party in the upcoming elections,” he said.
