Peace passed with many legacies – National Theater General Manager Prof Sunnie Ododo
I first met Peace Osigwe over the phone in 2015. The Honorable Minister of Culture had asked me to have a discussion with him on the then proposed MOPPICON Bill. I am the President of the Society of Nigeria Theater Artist (SONTA) and we are also proposing to have a regulatory council. And Ministers feel they can work together and harmonize positions.
But I finally met him during the 2022 AMAA awards in Lagos. Little did I know that it would be the last time I would see him in flesh and blood. I couldn’t believe it when I heard the news about her journey back to her creator. But the reality is that we have to deal with it. The important thing is that they don’t just pass this place.
Peace passed with a lot of heritage. He is deeply committed to the growth and creative development of younger people. Many young talents have passed through the Academy and many other young people will be the future of the film industry in Africa and indeed the world. He is very passionate about his phone and also very humble.
As creatives, we rejoice, because we are not dead; our work lives on. Until then, for a long time, we will continue to tell of the great works that Peace Osigwe did and left behind for us. There are many lessons we will continue to learn from this.
He lives about creating pillars, structures – Joke Silva
God said that in all that, thank you and let us thank you. We are thankful for a life that is simply amazing; life is a giver. Giving is not only about oneself, it is about creating pillars, building structures, creating things that will extend beyond one’s own life.
In my family, Peace is known as the daughter of my husband’s industry. When Peace saw me, he would greet me and say he didn’t have time, but it was my uncle (Olu) who I wanted to see; they are very close. They are working together in Surulere Film Market where we hope to start another platform for the distribution of our films.
One thing I want to say and it’s important to remember is that whatever we can do to make sure that AMAA doesn’t die, we will do it. I say this because, AMAA is the Oscar of the African film industry. Serenity prepares in such a way that once the body of judges gives an award, you can be sure that the film deserves an award. This is an award you can trust. So, AMAA is our Oscar, we can’t die. We will support it to make it a legacy.
Peace of life for the industry —President of Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN) Dr. Victor Okhai
This is a very difficult tribute to pay or talk about Peace Anyiam-Osigwe in the past. No one saw this coming. But you know, whatever we do, we’ll answer the phone one day. In a short span of time, he has done a lot for the industry. He is one person, who has been sponsored by many people for one reason or another. He lived a selfless life.
His whole life was in this industry. If that’s not impact, I don’t know what is. He lives for this industry. He has left a legacy and shoes that are too big for anyone. And hopefully those left behind will carry on the legacy they left behind.
We lost in him a visionary leader. He is very connected and he uses his connections for the betterment of the industry, not only in Nigeria but also in Africa. I stand here on behalf of all guilds and associations to say that we will not cry, but celebrate the Anyiam-Osigwe Peace.
He is an extraordinary personality and trailblazer – Lagos Commissioner for Arts and Culture, Uzamat Akinbile Yussuf
PEACE Anyiam-Osigwe, for the short time I knew and met him, is an outstanding personality, trailblazer, pathfinder, go-getter, humanitarian and one of the creative leaders and visionaries of his kind in the film and television industry. The news of his death came as a shock and I consider it a great loss to the Nigerian industry.
He left an indelible mark on the sands of time and his legacy should not be left behind by the entertainment industry. My condolences to his family and the entire film industry.
