Ethereum Devs Found Critical Bug Ahead Of Major Upgrade

Marius VanDerWijden, core developer at Ethereum’s upcoming Shanghai-Capella upgrade, reported The bug was found in the Zhejiang testnet. VanDerWijden said:

In the end 4 and a half stressful hours of debugging culminated in this amazing bug fix. We got a report that the geth node is not syncing the Zhejiang devnet properly. The problem is that if the block body is empty (no tx, no withdrawal) we won’t start properly

Ethereum Always Improves Network Upgrades

according to for Ethereum core developer Tim Beiko, this bug can be “patched quickly.” He also said that testing is “easy” for developers. In addition, the developers will add Hive tests for this case.

The purpose of the Zhejiang testnet is to cancel the stress test and BLS, a digital signature scheme used to prevent forgery. In the Ethereum testnet, validators sign in and verify blocks to make sure they all follow the consensus rules. Using signature schemes like BLS can help solve this problem.

The verification of such on-chain signatures may cause more problems as the number of validators continues to increase. The Beiko team stated:

Devnet has 600k validators, and 360k of them are doing withdrawal credential updates directly on the fork.

Ethereum is on the verge of a much-anticipated Shanghai-Capella upgrade, promoting new blockchain computing, transactions, and validation. Still, most importantly, it will allow validators to withdraw ETH locked in the “Beacon Chain,” the Proof-of-Stake blockchain launched in 2020.

Ethereum is currently trading at $1,680, representing a 1.3% gain over the last 24 hours. Ethereum has followed Bitcoin’s lead and remained in the profit zone in the last seven days with a gain of 2%.

Ethereum continues to develop its network, and the Shanghai-Capella upgrade will be a stronger foundation for the future. This may cause excitement from investors and allow the second largest cryptocurrency to reach its highest level every year in a short period of time.

The next upgrade will introduce sharding capabilities and give the blockchain more capacity to access data and lower transaction costs for services in the network. The next update to this blockchain development is expected to be launched by the end of 2023.
