Eskom has announced that it will increase load shedding to stage 6 from Saturday night to conserve power plant capacity.
The power utility said there was a chance a stage 6 power outage could continue into Sunday.
The ill-fated utility’s spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha said the deliberate power outages were necessary to replenish generation reserves.

“To make room to fill the emergency generation reserve, Eskom will implement stage 6 load shedding from 8pm to 5am.”
“Next phase 4 load shedding will be implemented until further notice, with the possibility that phase 6 load shedding could be implemented again on Sunday night,” said Mantshantsha.

Meanwhile, The National Press Club, the largest club representing journalists and communication professionals, has named Eskom and load shedding 2022 Newsmaker of the Year.
This annual award, created by the National Press Club since 1980, honors the Newsmaker of the calendar year based on the amount of media coverage received as well as influence.
