Erik ten Hag says Manchester United know how to beat Arsenal again on Sunday, but believes the Premier League leaders have improved since their defeat at Old Trafford earlier this season.
United travel to the Emirates this weekend, staying at Sky Sportslooking to do a double over Mikel Arteta’s side after a 3-1 home victory in September.
But they face an Arsenal side who have not lost in the league since then and are increasingly confident of winning their first title since 2004.
The Gunners have an eight-point lead over third-placed United at the halfway stage of the campaign, but the Ten Hag, who have won 21 of their 29 games, have plans to end their impressive run of form.
“He deserves to be in his current position,” said the United boss.
“He has a very good structure in the way he plays and has a winning mentality and team attitude. That’s why he’s at the top of the league.
“When we played before you could see that the coaching style had worked. You could see a very good structure in the team and I think they even improved in the first half of the season. There was a very good spirit in the team. team.
“He ran well and we have to win the race and we will do everything to do that.
“We know what we have to do. We have to be very good and we need a very good performance. If we do that, then we have a good chance to get a good result.”
Asked how the gameplan might change without the suspended Casemiro, Ten Hag added: “We beat Arsenal last time without Casemiro, so we have an idea of how to do it.”
Ten Hag: We are always looking for more signings
United are on a 10-game unbeaten run in all competitions, but their impressive nine-game winning streak was ended by Crystal Palace on Wednesday evening.
January loan signing Wout Weghorst made his debut in the match and the Ten Hag were asked if there was a chance he would return to Old Trafford this month with 11 days of the transfer window remaining.
“I think Manchester United have to find a solution and you have to find something better,” said the Dutchman.
“That’s what we’re going to do. We’re going to do our research and if there’s an opportunity we’re going to do it.”
One player who could add to United’s options this month is Jadon Sancho, who is close to returning to the first team. The 22-year-old is back in training after a trip to the Netherlands to do an individual program.
Sancho has not featured for United since the 1-1 draw at Chelsea on October 22, but Ten Hag would not confirm when the winger would be available.
“They’re making the next step,” he said. “On Tuesday he returned to training with the team, so we will continue in the coming days and the coming weeks and step by step.”
The United boss also said he was unsure whether right-back Diogo Dalot and forward Anthony Martial would be fit to face Arsenal. Both players missed the midweek draw with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park with hamstring and leg injuries.
