Enough of The Slogans! No Single ‘Agenda 111’ Hospital Completed Since 2020 – Mahama Fires Akufo-Addo | Politics

Former President John Dramani Mahama has slammed President Akufo-Addo over his ‘Agenda 111’ hospital promise.

According to the former President, the country has not witnessed the completion of a single hospital since it was promised in 2020.

“The ‘Agenda 111’ hospital promise is in its 4th year, but not a single hospital has been completed to support the delivery of quality healthcare. This is contrary to the lofty promises made in 2020. The NPP must learn to take Ghanaians seriously. Enough. of Slogan!” he tweeted Friday afternoon.

the president’s promise

Delivering his State of the Nation address in Parliament last year, the President assured Ghanaians that his government would complete all the hospitals under the Agenda 111 project before leaving office.

“You can say that many preparations have now been completed, and work has begun on eighty-seven (87) of the one hundred and eleven (111) sites. I have been assured that preliminary work on the remaining 24 (24) sites is still ongoing,” the President said.

President Akufo-Addo, however, admitted that the early completion date given by the government to complete the Agenda 111 project was too ambitious.

According to him, the government is even finding it difficult to identify suitable locations across the country for the construction of the hospital.

Hospital ‘Agenda 111’

The government has secured $100 million in seed funding through the Ghana Investment Infrastructure Fund (GIIF) to begin work on ‘Agenda 111’ district, specialized and regional hospitals across the country.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo performed a ground-breaking ceremony on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at Trede in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region.

The Project Implementation Committee led by the Chief of Staff, Madam Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, has secured sites and land certificates for 88 of the 101 district hospitals and each unit will cost US$17 million, covering 15 hectares.

Each hospital is expected to be completed within 12 months, starting from scratch.

The Agenda 111 project includes 101 district hospitals, six regional hospitals in the newly created region, two specialized hospitals in the central and northern belt, as well as a regional hospital in the Western Region and the renovation of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital.

The objective of the Project, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah explained, is to expand quality health services at the district level, increasing access to health services for all citizens in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.

Each unit will have facilities such as Outpatient services, including consultations for medical and surgical cases, Ophthalmology, Dentistry and Physiotherapy and Imaging services.

According to the government, once completed, the health facility will be “the largest investment in health infrastructure in the country since independence.”
