
Major formula maker Reckitt has announced a recall of two batches of Enfamil ProSobee Simply Plant-Based Infant Formula due to potential cross-contamination with bacteria known as Cronobacter sakazakii.
The recall, announced Monday, affects 145,000 12.9-ounce cans of formula manufactured between August 2022 and September 2022. The product is distributed in the U.S., Guam, and Puerto Rico, and the recalled batches have the numbers below. under the can: ZL2HZF and ZL2HZZ. Both batches have UPC Code 300871214415 and a use-by date of March 1, 2024, according to the recall announcement.
Reckitt said that the product has been tested and confirmed negative for contaminants and no adverse reactions or illnesses have been reported; However, the formula is remembered for a lot of caution. None of the ProSobee Simply Plant-Based Infant Formula group or any other Reckitt products are affected.
“After a thorough investigation, we have determined the cause, which is related to material from a third party,” the company said in its announcement. “We have taken all appropriate corrective actions, including not sourcing this material from our supplier.”
Consumers are advised to discard the product if affected by the recall, or return the item to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Cronobacter bacteria were behind Abbott Nutrition’s formula recall last year, which led to a national formula shortage. These bacteria can cause life-threatening infections or meningitis.
Symptoms associated with Cronobacter infection include:
- poor feeding
- Irritability
- temperature changes
- Jaundice
- grunting breath
- abnormal body movements
Caregivers are advised to contact a health care provider immediately to report symptoms in the infant and receive immediate treatment.
