Energy Ministry Runs On Prepaid Meters…Reports on ECG Disconnection Are False! – Kofi Abrefa Clarifies | General News

The Ministry of Energy has recorded reports that it experienced a disconnection exercise last Tuesday from its agency, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), due to unpaid electricity bills.

The ministry described the report as falsely announcing that the Energy Ministry’s facilities were running on prepaid meters.

Explaining the matter, the Communications Specialist in the Ministry, Kofi Abrefa Afena said the Ministry has been disconnected from the network.

“The Ministry only has the challenge of prepaid payments and therefore calls ECG to intervene”, he asserted.

He continued; “The Ministry of Energy as the supervisory agency of ECG will support ECG to recover all the money received from the energy sold to consumers. The Ministry will lead by example in paying for the energy consumed.

The ministry, according to Mr. Afena, is asking energy users to pay their bills so that ECG and NEDCo provide essential services to consumers.
