Elon Musk took his ongoing feud with former Donald Trump adviser Steve Bannon to new, dark and unsubstantiated depths on Tuesday morning.
A day after the Department of Justice and FBI announced that there was no “client list” for late convicted sex offender and disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, the Tesla mogul claimed without evidence that Bannon was named in those files.
It started when Musk got into an exchange on X with GOP operative Roger Stone, who apparently has his own ax to grind with Bannon.
Stone had cited a Business Insider story about a documentary Bannon was reportedly making about Epstein and raised questions about meetings between the two men.
Musk piled on, suggesting there was a nefarious reason behind it all.
“Bannon is in the Epstein files,” he wrote.
Musk didn’t offer any actual evidence to support his claim ― just like when he claimed Trump was in the Epstein files last month in a series of now-deleted posts.
Stone limited comments on his post after Musk made the fiery allegation.
The feud between Musk and Bannon is clearly still going strong. Last week, Bannon suggested the South African-born Musk should be deported, and last month, he claimed the Tesla titan was “a national security issue.”
Musk meanwhile predicted on X that Bannon would go back to prison, where he previously served a four-month sentence for contempt of Congress, to atone for “a lifetime of crime.”
Neither Bannon nor Musk immediately responded to a request for comment on Musk’s Epstein files allegation.
However, social media users happily supplied their own theories. They also questioned Musk’s motives, including by posting a photo of him with Epstein’s girlfriend and convicted co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell at the 2014 Vanity Fair Oscar party. (Musk says Maxwell photobombed him and that he did not know her.)
