Twitter CEO Elon Musk has finally apologized for promoting a nonsensical conspiracy theory to his 126 million social media followers about the vicious hammer attack on Paul Pelosi at his home last October.
“I’m sorryMusk said after a chorus of calls for him to do so on Friday when horrifying video footage captured by police body cameras arriving at the scene of the attack was released.
But Musk emphatically did not blame or downplay conspiracy theories that the attack was part of some kind of spat with a male bodyguard. In fact, he indicated in a tweet that he still believes it might be true.
After the violent attack, some right-wing Republicans – including Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) – made light of the crime that fractured the skull of her ex-husband. speaker of the House Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.)
Paul Pelosi was taken to the hospital where he underwent surgery for a fractured skull and to repair serious hand and arm injuries. Donald Trump expressed skepticism about the attack.
Others, like Musk, posit a conspiracy theory that the evil attack was carried out by 82-year-old Pelosi. taken at a gay bar in San Francisco rather than by home invaders. The baseless “evidence” is that Pelosi appears to be in her underwear. In fact, he was in his pyjamas, in bed, when his house was attacked.
David DePape is currently in prison awaiting trial on several charges in the attack, including attempted murder and torturing the elderly. In a phone call from prison on Friday to a San Francisco TV station, he reportedly regretted that he “didn’t get more,” referring to the Democratic lawmaker. Investigators said he followed Nancy Pelosi when she entered the couple’s home in San Francisco.
Immediately after the violence, Musk linked to an article in the Santa Monica Observer claimed the attack happened as Pelosi was arguing with a male escort. None of that is true. But Musk wrote: “There’s a small chance there might be more to this story than meets the eye.”
Former Illinois Republican Adam Kinzinger tweeted on Friday: “Hey @elonmusk care to respond to Pelosi’s video? You are spreading a big conspiracy…”
MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle also tweeted: “This would be a perfect moment for @elonmusk please excuse me to the Pelosi family.
Musk replied:me.”
It couldn’t be immediately determined whether Musk had reached out to the family to apologize — or if the apology was accepted, because he didn’t lie.
One Twitter user write: “Idiots on the left want @elonmusk to apologize to Pelosis. For what? This is still a questionable and weird situation between two people in their underwear.
Instead of debunking conspiracy theories, Musk the answer: “However, I apologize.”
Musk’s vicious attack on Pelosi is like a scathing slam against British cave explorer Vernon Unsworth, who risked his life to help rescue 12 boys and their soccer coach who were trapped for weeks in a flooded Thai cave in 2018. To save the children, Musk refers to the savior as “pedo,” short for “pedophile.”
After being sued for defamation in the case, Musk testified in Los Angeles Court that he used the word “pedo” only as an “insult” – not as a statement of fact. They just want to insult “creepy old people,” Musk insists.
The jury found that Musk did not harm Unsworth.
