Bitcoin State seeks to produce world-class Bitcoin and Lightning engineers through a new program that uses the university system.
The El Salvador Bitcoin Office has announced a new six-month educational program titled “CUBO+” that aims to produce elite-level Bitcoin and Lighting developers through the Salvadoran university system.
According to the Office, the program, starting in May, will include a relatively small group of students, at 25, narrowed down from some of the brightest students at the university of El Salvador. The first group will be students at Don Bosco University. They will compete for the inaugural Plan B Fellowship, funded by Tether and Fulgur Ventures. This project is the result of an agreement recently announced between El Salvador and Lugano, Switzerland for the first time in the world Bitcoin Embassy in a Swiss city.
The program will be led and taught by some of the brightest minds in Bitcoin who will be announced soon. Classes will cover topics from high-level technical development specific to Bitcoin, to distributed technologies such as Holepunch, Nostr and Web5. Private funding is responsible for the program, and all students eligible for the Plan B Fellowship will receive a stipend to cover the cost of the course.
The first two months of the program will be online, followed by a two-week in-person bootcamp, featuring full-day courses located in San Salvador. The rest of the month will include online mentoring close to the top names in Bitcoin.
Information shared with Bitcoin Magazine explains how the program will become a framework that others can use as an open source standard for high-level Bitcoin education. Education experts are involved in the design of a course that promises to set the standard for other countries to follow.
Students who complete the course will be given a variety of options to continue their Bitcoin journey, including the option to take up a full-time job at a reputable Bitcoin company. Otherwise, entrepreneurial and continuing education opportunities will be available.
The name Cubo+ is taken from the project that President Nayib Bukele started in the position of Mayor of San Salvador. When he was mayor, the city would erect a building in a poor area, and the building would be a library and a community center to further education. This program hopes to draw on this inspiration to build the future of El Salvador.
