With less than 50 days to go until Nigeria’s 2023 general election, members, candidates, and serving members of parliament are throwing political parties for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano and Jigawa State.
Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje on Friday welcomed Yusuf Babangida, a member of the state house of parliament and a member of the New Nigeria People’s Party, (NNPP) to the APC.
Babangida represents Gwale Local Government in the Kano State House of Assembly. He is a staunch loyalist of the NNPP presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
He accused the NNPP of not paying attention to the democratic ideals for which he was on his political journey.

“An undue promotion of personal and family relationships over and above the value of generations and the lack of political playing turf for the progressive rise and many other reasons related to incoherence in the pursuit of illogical aspirations,” Babangida said.
“The reasons above and in between, give us no choice but to leave the NNPP and continue our political journey elsewhere.”
Elsewhere in Jigawa State, Governor Muhammad Badaru, welcomed Labor Party candidates contesting the assembly council election to APC on Friday.

The eight candidates are from Auyo, Kirikasamma, Bulangu, Malammadori, Kafin Hausa, Birniwa, Guri and Kaugama.
The Chairman of APC in Jigawa State, Aminu Gumel, has assured the new members that they will be given the rights and privileges enjoyed by the old members.
Badaru’s media aide, Habibu Kila, said one of the defectors was a member of the Labor Party’s northern presidential campaign council who dumped the party and joined the APC.
The governor expressed his appreciation to him and promised to be involved in all party activities and urged him to be a loyal member of the party, according to Kila.
“One of the defecting politicians, Muhammad Makinta, from Guri Local Government Area, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, said they joined APC after they realized that the party in the country has better prospects,” Kila said.
Kila said Makinta assured the same governor that he will be able to ensure victory for the APC candidate in the general election in his area of influence.
