The Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has challenged the Conference of Principals of Aided Secondary Schools (CHASS) and Principals of TVET Technical and Vocational Education and Training Schools to improve educational outcomes or face the risk of the institution being closed.
He explained that schools with a consistent zero to ten percent pass rate should incorporate intervention programs to ensure that the majority of students will find opportunities for further education instead of being a liability to parents and society for not being able to graduate. test.
He explained that closing the schools will help save the country from huge financial loss from the government due to the existence of the school so that the affected students will be distributed to other nearby schools so that they can continue their education.
Dr Adutwum disclosed this at the weekend when he addressed members of the Conference of Senior Secondary Schools (CHASS) and Principals of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Schools in Kumasi on Saturday and Sunday. The meeting is an annual event to share the current state of education in the country, discuss new developments in the sector and answer questions on issues affecting them.
The meeting held in the two groups saw all SHS principals attend on Saturday while Principals of TVET institutions across the country also attended on Sunday.
He commended the principals for their role in the transformation of education in the country and promised to continue providing the necessary resources and urged them to work hard to ensure that they get the right results.
Dr. Adutwum also warned the heads not to stop first grade students from registering because some items in the prospectus have not been purchased.
He said, “no student should be expelled from school because their parents have not been able to get some things in the school prospectus, at least let them come to school and the rest can be bought some time. .”
The Minister of Education lamented adding many other unapproved items to the school prospectus which in the long run caused the bloat of the prospectus for first grade students.
Dr Adutwum advised the chiefs not to do anything that would discourage or prevent students from accessing education.
He urged the principals to make it their goal to do everything to create an environment conducive to learning and not disrupting learning.
The Deputy Minister of Education, responsible for the TVET sector, Ms Gifty Twum-Ampofo, reminded Principals to ensure that students are well equipped for the job market and also that schools pass them and not students pass the school.
He also urged Principals to use their time to improve their capacity through reading relevant courses and books to support their efforts to get the best training for their students.
The presentation was made by the leaders of Ghana Education Service (GES), National Education Leadership Institute (NELI), Free Senior High School Secretariat, Funds and Procurement Management Unit (FPMU), Ghana TVET Service.
