He went there! As Eddie Murphy honored with the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 80th Golden Globe Awards, he said Will Smith‘s now-famous Oscar slap.
“This is great,” Murphy, 61, said during the broadcast, before giving a shout-out to his fiancee. Paige Butcher and 10 children, Tuesday, January 10.
At Daddy Day Care the actor continues to offer Hollywood newbies some tips that he has learned over the years. “I want you to know there is a definitive blueprint you can follow to achieve success, prosperity, longevity and peace of mind,” said Murphy. “That’s the blueprint [that] I followed it all my life. It’s very simple. There are three things, you only do this: Pay taxes, mind your business and don’t forget the name of Will Smith’s wife from the king’s mouth.
The room then laughed and applauded.
The 53-year-old Emancipation star made headlines at last year’s Academy Awards when he smacked the presenter Chris Rock over the face to joke about Jada Pinkett Smithhis head was shaved. (Pinkett Smith suffers from alopecia and has been vocal about hair loss.) When Smith finally apologized for his actions, he was banned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences event for 10 years.

“We are honored to present the Cecil B. DeMille Award this year to the wonderful and highly respected Mr. Eddie Murphy,” Helen Hoehne, the current HFPA president, said in a statement at the time. “We are delighted to be able to celebrate the lasting impact on film and television whose careers – in front of and behind the camera – have spanned decades.”
The Cecil B. DeMille Award is a special Golden Globe, given to one recipient during the show. Previous awards included Jane Fonda, George Clooney, Tom Hanks, Robert De NiroAudrey Hepburn and Steven Spielberg. Murphy’s honor marks the first time in two years that the Cecil B. DeMille Award will be presented. No awards were named during the 2022 awards show as celebrities, media and industry executives boycotted the Golden Globes over concerns about diversity and the HFPA’s accountability.
