The Electoral Commission (EC) boss, Jean Mensa, and the Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority, Kenneth Attafuah, are scheduled to appear in parliament today, Tuesday, February 28, 2023 to brief the House of Representatives leaders on the draft CI on voter registration.
As Madam Mensa was not in the House, the Minority in Parliament objected to the briefing by EC officials last Thursday.
Reports abound that the EC Chairman, Jean Mensa is in Ghana and has refused to honor the invitation of the Parliament which disrespects the great house.
However, the Electoral Commission in response to the claim said, “At the time the Chairman had traveled to Nigeria at the invitation of ECOWAS/ECONEC for a peer exchange and election observation mission.”
But the EC Chairman is unlikely to reappear in parliament for the scheduled meeting as he is still out of the country.
Earlier, the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, announced that the EC Chairman, Jean Mensa, would appear before the legislators on Tuesday.
“The EC officials have made contact with the Chairman, who has agreed to come so that we have a meeting committee of the whole, but he is late because the Minority MP is taking the parliamentary form. So on Tuesday, he will appear, and we will continue with the meeting committee.
