
The police organized crime unit has launched an investigation into the shooting of 47-year-old municipal councilor Mbhashe in Dutywa, Eastern Cape.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana said the incident happened on Friday outside his place of business.
“He parked his car in front of the business and allegedly went inside to collect money. Preliminary investigation revealed that he was confronted by two unknown male suspects while they were busy counting money inside the car.
“One of them was wearing a balaclava. He allegedly shot her with a firearm and then escaped in a white Toyota Avanza, which was parked a few meters from the crime scene.
The deceased was a member of the mayor’s committee.

The province has been devastated by a spate of gun violence and mass shootings.
Last week, an unknown suspect entered a house in Thantseka location and shot an elderly woman, 62, and her 13-year-old grandson.
Police said the gunmen then moved to a second home and shot and killed a 44-year-old woman. The deceased was the daughter of an old woman.
In another separate incident, unknown gunmen entered a rondavel in Qunu and shot seven people.
Four men and three women, between the ages of 32 and 46, died.
Police have not determined whether the two incidents are related.
A few days before the shooting, four people were shot dead and four others wounded at a house party in KwaZakhele in Gqeberha.
