At Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kebbi State, on Monday, declared the collection officer for Marafa ward in Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area of Kebbi State, Yusuf Isa-Yahaya, as ‘persona non-grata’.
The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Ahmed Bello-Mahmud, said on Monday in Birnin Kebbi that the commission, however, would not be deterred by this development.
He said the commission had no choice but to declare him absent after several meetings on the matter as per the law, adding that a new competent collection officer had been appointed to do the job.
Mr. Bello-Mahmud assured that the newly appointed officers will continue from where the missing officers left off and may make the announcement on Monday (today).
Hot contest
NAN reports that tension is high at the INEC office in Birnin Kebbi because of the heated contest between the state governor, Atiku Bagudu, and his predecessor, Adamu Aliero, who is the senatorial candidate of APC and PDP for the same district.
The rivalry between the followers of the two party leaders has led to security in the commission office.

Aliero asked for calm
Also speaking, Mr. Aliero advised his supporters to remain calm, adding that the commission’s decision is in line with the law of the land.

He said that his people have been waiting for the announcement of the results for two days but there was no result.
He urged the commission to announce the results as soon as possible.
“Therefore, I call on all supporters to obey the law, and be mature and ensure that they maintain the relative peace they are enjoying for the good and progress of the country and the nation in general,” he said.
