Editor of Finder newspaper, Elvis Darko, said the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, is the best chance for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to win the 2024 elections.
Speaking on Prime Morning Wednesday, January 11, 2022, Mr. Darko said Bawumia is the best candidate the NPP could have because he has been a leader in the party’s electoral success in 2016 and 2020.
Darko said the strong advantage NPP delivered in Northern Ghana was due to Dr Bawumia, adding that as the Vice President and an economist, he has more knowledge on the economy than anyone else in the NPP Presidential primaries.
“The best chance for the NPP is Dr. Bawumia because he is the Vice President and if every candidate that comes will run on the record of the NPP, who is the best candidate to run on that record? It is the Vice President because he has been involved in the country. He is the one who is doing all this which the party will do in the 2024 elections,” he said.
He added that the NPP should shed the perception of being a tribal party because it always favors Akan candidates, opining “They are on the wrong path.”
Darko added that Bawumia’s achievements make him the perfect candidate to dispel such perceptions about NPP.
Editor Finder added that if no Muslim is elected President of Ghana, the NPP will have strong Islamic support if it dares to call Dr Bawumia its flag bearer.
The ruling party will choose its flag bearer later this year in a hotly contested field that includes Bawumia, former Trade Minister Alan Kyeremanten, Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, and others.
