Don’t portray journalists as terrorists – Mahama
Former President John Dramani Mahama has urged Ghanaians not to tag journalists as terrorists.
The comments came after Justice Eric Baah in a ruling on a defamation claim by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas against Kennedy Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin Central in the Central Region, described Anas’ work as investigative terrorism.
But while delivering a lecture on political campaign financing, at the UPSA auditorium on March 22, Mr. Mahama urged everyone to uphold the country’s democracy by refusing to portray journalists who have destroyed the country as terrorists.
“We must also uphold human rights, including freedom of expression and not portray some journalists as terrorists,” Mr Mahama said.
He promised to restore confidence in the country’s democracy and governance system if re-elected in the 2024 elections.
“Mr. Chairman, my agenda is to Build ‘TheGhana We Want Together’ from 2025, will involve constitutional, political and governance reforms to restore confidence in our democracy and governance system,” he said.
Present at the event were several party figures, members and civil society organizations from CDD-Ghana, and IDEG among others.
