Don’t endorse Akufo-Addo’s new ministerial nomination – NDC to Minority
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has directed the Minority Caucus in Parliament not to endorse President Nana Akufo-Addo’s new ministerial candidate.
The NDC described the nomination as insensitive and will affect government spending amid the economic chaos created by president Akufo-Addo and the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The NDC in a statement signed by its Secretary General, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey said: “The NDC has long expressed its concern about the size of the current government which is too large and shares the view of most Ghanaians, including civil society, that it should be reduced. in mind the massive economic mess the country is currently in plunged into the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government.
The party said it had asked the government and president Akufo-Addo on several occasions to reduce the number of appointees, but the president remained firm.
He said the only option available to parties to try to force the president to reduce the size of his government is to direct party members in Parliament to reject candidates.
“The leadership of the NDC, with this background, directed the Minority caucus in Parliament not to approve any of the new ministerial nominees and further push the size of the government with the aim of reducing unnecessary channels due to scarce public resources.”
“In this moment of haircuts, the most important thing the government can do is “cut the government’s hair”. The directive to the minority in parliament, we strongly believe is in line with the genuine sentiments of most Ghanaians,” the NDC added in its statement.
President Akufo-Addo on February 7 nominated six members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to replace several outgoing ministers.
