Former President Donald Trump awkwardly claimed he “didn’t know” Silk, one half of the popular conservative duo Diamond & Silk, during a speech at his sister Diamond’s memorial service on Saturday.
Lynette “Diamond” Hardaway, who popularly supported Trump along with her sister, died earlier this month at the age of 51 in what the former president described as “completely” unexpected events.
Trump appeared at a North Carolina service where – in addition to his reflections on Diamond – he railed about inflation and gas prices when he listed a series of political grievances.
The former president, who visited the duo at the White House and held public meetings in the past, called Diamond one of the world’s “brightest stars” before making a strange comment about his sister.
“I’m serious, I think I know both of them. I don’t. I know Diamond but I don’t know Sutra at all. I just learned about the Sutras. You are incredible,β Trump said.
Trump then addressed the crowd at the memorial service before using his time on stage to dive into his plans for the event.
“The chapel is not going to have the kind of people, the amount of people that we have,” Trump said.
“And we’re doing it right and that’s how it should be and I see a lot of really good vehicles out there. That has to be handled right, right? So we’re going to handle it right. Go out in style. They know it. Go out in style.”
Trump also went on about the three-hour-plus service, which he said was “about 15 minutes.”
