Are members of law enforcement fooled by Trump’s pattern of selective support for attacks on the police? Trump supports police who support his disdain for black and brown Americans by brutalizing them before they are found guilty of a crime. He supports police violence against groups who oppose him. He supports police who support him. This week, he used the tragic shooting of officer Diller in New York to tell his false story about caring about law enforcement. In contrast, he has never defended the heroic acts of law enforcement who fought to defend the peaceful transfer of power on Jan. 6th. Why? Because he didn’t care if those policemen had to die that day. He didn’t care that the mob was yelling, ” hang Mike Pence.” He wanted his coup to succeed more than he cared about stopping the violent attacks on police. He lost the election and didn’t care who had to die in order for him to stay in power.
Trump is rightfully being sued by several Capitol police officers for sending his armed followers to the Capitol that day. Not only did Trump not attend any of the funerals for police officers who died as a result of the insurrection, he plans to pardon the criminals who attacked them.

Officer Sicknick died the day after he was attacked at the Capitol. He was hit in the head with a fire extinguisher, beaten, and sprayed with chemicals by Trump’s mob. Sicknick’s grieving father said about Trump going to Officer Diller’s wake: “The guy’s a criminal. He’s the reason my son is dead — because of the riot at the Capitol,” He’s a publicity hound. He does whatever will get him votes and helps Donald Trump. There’s nothing good about that man.”

Trump likes the police when they treat black and brown citizens with violence before they are charged or convicted of a crime. When officer Derek Chauvin was convicted of killing George Floyd , Donald Trump was silent. When the police protect Americans right to peacefully protest, Trump criticizes them. On many issues, Trump is selective on when and where he supports democracy and when and where he supports law enforcement officers. This behavior should exclude any person from holding the office of the US. presidency.
