CNN host Don Lemon went after Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (DN.Y.) for suggesting that the network wants to “go around” on President Joe Biden’s classified documents case. (You can watch Lemon’s response below.)
The heated moment comes at the end of a week marked by reports of the discovery of classified documents at Biden’s home and at the office he used, in a matter that prompted a special counsel investigation.
Lawyers found more documents during a search of his home library, the White House said Saturday. While the White House previously announced that Biden’s personal attorney found one document on Wednesday, White House lawyers said they discovered additional pages while there on Thursday, bringing the total to six pages from the library.
Lemon got back at Schumer on Friday’s “CNN This Morning” program, telling her that the president’s handling of classified material is “serious stuff.”
“It’s not just, hold on, it’s not just us buzzing around – you’re the head of the Democrats of the Senate,” said Lemon after Schumer said that all the hosts want to do “buzz around” in the case.
“This is a very important issue. It’s not just buzzing around. This is a serious matter.”
Schumer said prosecutors would be aware of the matter and suggested that without a special counsel there would be “different things” about the situation.
“I think we should have a special prosecutor for each,” Schumer said of the Biden case and former President Donald Trump’s case involving classified materials at Mar-a-Lago.
“I don’t care [that] you ask this question, but my opinion is that I will not say anything. Let the special prosecutor do his job,” the Senate Democratic leader said.
CNN’s Poppy Harlow then asked the Democrats what they wanted the White House to do about the initial release of the documents discovered in November and not the ones discovered in December, findings made public after the White House’s admission.
You can watch Harlow’s question to Schumer and her response around the 0:53 mark in the video below.
