A man died in a freak accident…after a dog accidentally shot him! Yes, dogs are killers!
According to Sumner County Sheriff’s Office in Kansas, Friday morning at around 10:00 local time, deputies responded to a 911 call in the area of 80th Street South and River Road, north of Geuda Springs, which is near the Oklahoma state line. Once on the scene, they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds after a freak hunting accident – apparently caused by a dog!

according to KSNW Saturday, the sheriff’s office announced that the victim was 30 years old Joseph Austin Smith from Wichita. CBS unite KWCH-DT he was reportedly sitting in the front passenger seat of a pickup truck carrying hunting equipment and a gun in the back seat. The dog, belonging to the owner of the vehicle, stepped on the gun behind it. Horrifyingly, the gun fired one round – and the bullet hit the victim in the front seat! According to the sheriff’s office, the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, Wellington Fire, and EMS all arrived on scene to assist. He told the outlet:
“A responding unit arrived within minutes of the 911 call and began CPR.”
Unfortunately, the efforts of the medical team were not enough and the victim “died of his injuries” at the scene of the shooting, ABC unite YOU ARE reported. Authorities have not clarified whether the dog belonged to the victim, if anyone else was present at the time of the accidental shooting, or if the car was moving at the time, but the investigation is reportedly closed. The sheriff’s office has not yet responded peoplerequest for comments.

A frightening and strange accident. Unfortunately, this is just one of 101 accidental shootings that have occurred in this country since the new year, according to data from Gun Violence Archives. Last year, there were more than 1,600 accidental shootings recorded, per the nonprofit organization’s website.
Another heartbreaking data shows that in the first three weeks of 2023, there were more than 2,400 gun deaths in the US. Oh my goodness. So devastating. We’re not out of January yet. Condolences to the families and friends of the victims as they mourn this terrible loss. RIP
