The governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, has appreciated the resilience of the people of the state and presented the Governor of the Year 2022 award by Sun Newspapers to the flood victims in the state.
Speaking in Lagos, on Saturday night, shortly after receiving the award, Diri expressed happiness that the people of the country were able to overcome the challenges presented by the disaster.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, quoted the governor and praised the people for supporting the administration, saying the award will spur him to do more.
Diri also praised the legislative and judicial bodies of the country for the synergy between the three arms of government, saying the cooperation has contributed greatly to the success recorded by the administration.
He said that peace and harmony in the state was one of the achievements of his administration and stressed that the people must keep the tempo, saying that is the only way Bayelsa can move forward.
He said, “This is more about the people of Bayelsa State. Whatever award we receive today is the representative of the people of the state who have supported us so much.
“Also, the three arms of government working together, that synergy helped us achieve whatever we are seeing today. We give glory to God.
“I am happy, on behalf of the administration, to appreciate the good people of Bayelsa State, especially the flood victims. We know what we are doing and we thank God that we are alive to receive the award from The Sun.
Earlier, The Sun’s Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief, Mr. Onuoha Ukeh, said the award, which is in its 20th edition, is dedicated to recognizing those who have contributed to the development of Nigeria.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the event and former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba, commended the management and staff of the organization for organizing the award, saying it was a good way to encourage development in Nigeria.
While describing next month’s general election as crucial to Nigeria’s survival, Osoba lauded the introduction of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and urged Nigerians to participate fully in the process. the law of the land.
