I think it will be interesting to see what the independence polls show in the days before Nicola Sturgeon’s successor is announced.
The Gender Recognition Reform Bill is a farrago but could provide a fishy legacy for Sturgeon. Sunak’s intervention, dubbed by some as an imperial veto, appears to have shifted voting intentions when it came to Scottish independence for the Union. The irony is that this could end up benefiting Sir Keir Starmer and Labor instead of Sunak.
But in recent years, we have seen wild swings caused by events such as, inter alia, the pandemic, SCOTUK’s intervention in the second referendum, Scotland being dragged out of the EU against its will. Only the unknowing miracle will confidently predict the outcome of Scotland’s place in England. There may be some events in the near future that could benefit Scottish independence.
Sturgeon’s successor has a lot of work to do if they want Scotland to leave the UK. Perhaps the favorite Humza Yousaf can surprise. Sturgeon’s legacy of Scottish independence is not caviar and champagne but rather a four-a-day Happy Meal.
