Delta: Unknown gunmen kill INEC staff as LP chieftain advises against post election violence | The Guardian Nigeria News

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Delta state, Mr. Senin Udoh Tom, yesterday, confirmed the killing of an official of the Commission by unknown gunmen.

He also said that several corps members sustained injuries.

Tom disclosed this to journalists shortly after announcing the results of the Ukwuani Local Council election.

He said: “There was an attack in Ukwuani, where one of them died on the road after the election.

“The gunmen opened fire on the bus carrying them but unfortunately one of them was killed while some corps members sustained injuries.”

According to him, the injured are currently being treated in the area but “we are planning how to move them to the hospital in Asaba.”

Meanwhile, the leader of the Labor Party in Delta State, Comrade Benjamin Ashiedu, has advised Nigerians to shun post-election violence and embrace the spirit of patriotism to build a united nation.

Asiedu gave the advice in Okpanam, near Asaba, Oshimili North Local Council of the state, following complaints by some voters about the trickling of results from the Presidential and National Assembly elections last Saturday until now released by INEC.

He advised desperate politicians and INEC officials not to deviate from the will of God, adding that the outcome of the election should reflect the expectations of the masses.

Comrade Ashiedu commended Nigerians and voters in Okpanam, especially for their active participation in the recently concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections.
