Delta State has been awarded the hosting rights for the 7th National Youth Games (NYG) by Federal Ministry of Sports and Youth Development (FMSYD).
Mohammed Manga, the Ministry’s Press Director, announced in a statement released on Thursday that the choice of Delta had been reached at a meeting of Game stakeholders. He said the meeting was held on the sidelines of the recently concluded National Sports Festival (NSF) in Asaba in December.
Manga quoted the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Ismaila Abubakar, as saying NYG has since its inception become a real place to harvest the abundant talent in the country.
“Many of the athletes we have discovered have been trained to an elite level by the Ministry where some have excelled at the international stage with podium performances for their countries.
“Other objectives of the Games are to promote national unity, prevent age fraud in sports and youth unrest, as well as establish a standard program for the succession of athletes, among others,” Abubakar said.
