Delta APC rejects election result, says Oborevwori’s victory will be overturned

The Delta All Progressives Congress, (APC), Campaign Council has rejected the results of the Delta State governorship election held on March 18, as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a statement, the council’s Director, Communications and Media Strategy, Ima Niboro, dismissed the results declared by INEC as a pyrrhic victory for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which will be annulled by the weight of evidence against it.

The PDP candidate, Sheriff Oborevwori, was on Monday, declared the winner of the election by INEC.

Mr. Oborevwori polled a total of 360,234 votes to defeat his nearest opponent, Ovie Omo-Agege of APC who polled 240,229 votes.

The APC campaign council said there is evidence that the process is characterized by irregularities and that the people of the country do not have the right to express their will.

“We have an entire arsenal of evidence that shows people’s disenfranchisement, non-use, and tampering with BVAS machines, declaring double results in polling units, issuing fake result sheets to agents and uploading cooked results to BVAS.

“We also have evidence of widespread vote suppression, voter intimidation, thugs and violence against supporters. PDP is at its worst during the Elections: wickedly denying the people their free will to express themselves in the polls.

“Look at the streets of Delta today. There is gloom everywhere. Our people wear long and sad faces. There is no sign of jubilation anywhere. Our streets would have been throbbing with life, song and dance, if this is the will of the people. This rape of the will of the people will not last. It must not be allowed to stand,” he said.

APC called on its members in the state to remain calm.

“We call on the loyal party and supporters to remain calm. Weeping may last the night, but joy comes in the morning,” he said.
