DA’s all-or-nothing attitude resulted in them ending up with nothing

One of the easiest things in the world to change is your own mind. I do it all the time. Whether it’s deciding what to wear, or what to order at a restaurant, my first decision is rarely my last.

The flipside, I believe, is one of the most difficult things in the world to change other people’s minds. Convincing my wife, for example, to have a steak instead of a pizza is impossible.

And they were for me. After I had decided to pair a limegreen dress with paisley trousers and ordered chitterlings because they sounded beautiful, no one would convince me to change.

Of course, when I looked like a clown and ate pig intestines, I only had myself to blame, because I was advised to. I just have to suck it up.

A change of heart is upon me after the changing of the guard in Johannesburg last week. Obviously, many politicians have changed their minds about loyalty, resulting in a party that only has three seats out of the 270 that currently occupy the mayor’s living room.

How long the new mayor will be in office remains to be seen, as the politicians who put him in there are free to change their minds again at any time.

The strangest part of the whole experience, however, was DA’s reaction. He immediately blamed the electorate for voting for minor parties and wasting votes on parties that were “only for themselves”. Voters, the DA said, were responsible for the “bad consequences” in Joburg.

indeed? I don’t think so. The coalition is here to stay. A country as diverse as ours cannot develop into a two-party state. What is needed is a politician who is willing to manage the coalition and not blame the voters when the coalition fails.

In my opinion, it is the DA’s all-or-nothing attitude that causes them to end up with nothing. I don’t expect to change anyone’s mind. And don’t expect to change your password. Because clowns eat tripe, they only have themselves to blame. Ask me.
