MANILA, Philippines – Newly appointed Choco Mucho coach Dante Alinsunurin wants to share all his learnings from men’s volleyball to the Premier Volleyball League, believing the system is perfect for the Flying Titans, who have been on the hunt for a podium since joining the league.
A day after Inquirer Sports broke the news, Choco Mucho on Friday morning officially welcomed Alinsunurin as the new head coach ahead of the 2023 PVL season, which begins with the Open Conference on February 4.
Alinsunurin is ready to take on a role in the professional women’s league after winning four championships for the National University in the UAAP men’s volleyball tournament and the latest Spikers’ Turf tournament last year and leading the Philippine team to a historic Asian Games silver medal in 2019. .
“I think it’s time to apply and share the system with the women’s team,” Alinsunurin told Inquirer Sports in Filipino.
“I decided to join the Choco Mucho team because I believe that my system can be applied to him because he has the height and skills. We just need a little polish,” he said.

Alinsunurin, who also led the Bulldogs to a gold medal at the 2018 Asean University Games in Myanmar before claiming silver at the 2022 edition in Thailand, will inherit a Choco Mucho squad anchored by Kat Tolentino, Deanna Wong, Desiree Cheng, Isa Molde and Bea De Leon, Maddie Glory, and libero Denden Lazaro-Revilla.
The Flying Titans have yet to get over the hump as they made back-to-back semifinal appearances in the PVL 2021 bubble and the Open Conference last season but missed out after knocking out the Invitational and Reinforced Conference.
In last year’s PVL season finale conference, Oliver Almadro resigned in the middle of the tournament to focus on the Ateneo women’s volleyball team program. Edjet Mabbayad served as interim but the team finished seventh with a 3-5 record.
In the middle of the high expectations of coaching the favorite team, Alinsunurin said he will keep his coaching style in an attempt to take the Flying Titans to greater heights with the modest goal of reaching the podium.
“I want to take the game to the next level. We also need to focus on our body condition to avoid injuries,” said new coach Choco Mucho.
“My coaching style will be the same. There will be some adjustments because it’s a woman [division] have a different style of play,” he added.
Alinsunurin also assured that he will handle the whole team with proper time management as he performs his duties as PVL coach, as NU tactician with the UAAP men’s volleyball Season 85 also opening in February, and as the mentor of the Philippines team with the 32nd Southeast Asia. set in May in Cambodia.
