Former world number one Daniil Medvedev claimed his 16th career title on Sunday with a hard-fought three-set victory over Jannik Sinner in the Rotterdam ATP final.
Medvedev won 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 against his Italian opponent who won the Montpellier tournament last weekend.
The 27-year-old Russian took his career head-to-head record against Sinner to 6-0 and will return to the top 10 in the world on Monday.
“I came for the first time in 2018 and immediately loved it,” said former US Open champion Medvedev.
“I’m happy to be back here. The last two times I’ve played here have been terrible and I’m happy to be better this year.
On Sunday, Medvedev completed the victory behind converting five of 12 break points and only 17 unforced errors for Dosa 30.
“Daniil, congrats to you and your team, winning your first title this season,” said Sinner, who will climb two places to number 12 in the world in the new rankings.
“I think you will win more this year, so I expect you all. It has been a positive two weeks for me. I played a lot of matches and I am very proud.
