SA Tourism-Spurs deal ‘illegal’, said De Lille
Despite claims of huge monetary benefits for the country, a proposed sponsorship deal between SA Tourism and Premier League football club Tottenham Hotspur is illegal.
This is according to Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille.
“Because of the situation, we have an economy, we must be more careful and consider everything we do as a government. Money must be used wisely and wisely, because we have been entrusted with public funds,” he said at a press conference on Friday.

Convicted rapist and murderer Thabo Bester ran a multi-million dollar fraud business while serving a life sentence for rape and murder at Mangaung Correctional Centre.
Bester posed as the “chairman” of 21st Century Media, a scam show and production company, which was made to look like a subsidiary of 21st Century Fox.
21st Century Media was the subject of a social media firestorm in 2018 for promoting a “Women in Media” conference with Hollywood A-listers as guest speakers, which turned out to be a scam.

Thabo Bester ‘escaped’: Government may consider ending G4S contract after investigation

Meanwhile, Justice and Corrections Minister Ronald Lamola on Friday questioned whether the government will end its contract with G4S, the security company that runs the prison where Facebook rapist Thabo Bester is allegedly being held.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Constitutional conference in Midrand, Lamola said the Department of Corrections together with the police are conducting tests on the body believed to be Bester.
“There is an ongoing investigation into the matter [looking] to the DNA and also to all the leaders,” he said on Friday.

Ekurhuleni Mayor Tania Campbell faces another motion of no confidence

Ekurhuleni City Mayor Tania Campbell will face a new attempt by opposition parties to remove her from office.
The motion of no confidence has been approved by the metro council’s programming committee and will be heard during the council’s regular meeting on March 30, 2023.
Campbell was previously removed from office through an ANC-sponsored motion of no confidence on October 26.
After two weeks, he returned as mayor in November, after collapsing in talks between the ANC and the EFF over which party should run the metro.

WATCH: Tanjung Timur Weather – Village hit by landslide and flood

The port of St Johns in the Eastern Cape was hit by landslides and heavy flooding on Friday morning.
Landslides and flooding occurred in Ward 16, one of the villages outside Port St Johns when lightning struck a student house.
Five students who attend a nearby high school and live at the boarding house were injured, but were confirmed to be stable at the time of publication.

Trevor Noah joins Charlie Chaplin in the history books and bag R3 miles cool

South African comedian and former host of Daily Events, Trevor Noah has reached another milestone in his career. The 39-year-old was awarded the Erasmus Prize – described as Europe’s most prestigious recognition – for stand-up comedy, political satire and humanism earlier this month.
The comedian has yet to receive the prize as the award ceremony will only take place later this year at the Royal Palace of the Netherlands in Amsterdam.
In a statement, the Praemium Erasmianum Foundation said it was awarding this prestigious award to Noah for his inspirational contribution to the theme ‘In Praise of Folly’, named after Erasmus’ most famous book, which is filled with humour, social criticism and political satire.
