The UN appointed Mbeki’s former adviser Mojanku Gumbi
Advocate Mojanku Gumbi has been appointed as a special adviser on racism by United Nations (UN) secretary general António Guterres.
Currently the chancellor of the University of Venda (Univen), Gumbi will be the Special Adviser on Tackling Racism in the Workplace in Guterres’ office.
Gumbi was a special adviser to former president Thabo Mbeki during his tenure.

Slain police officers: R3 million raised for children of slain officers

Minister of Police General Bheki Cele thanked the sponsors and donors who have invested in the children of police officers who died in the line of duty.
This comes after the South African Police Service (SAPS) held a Golf Day fundraising event in Polokwane, Limpopo to raise funds for the educational needs of the children of slain officers.
The fundraising event raised R3 million for the educational needs of children of police officers who have died in the line of duty.

Joburg Mayor Thapelo Ahmad slander on social media

Hours after the election of the new mayor of the City of Joburg, councilor Al Jama-ah Thapelo Amad received backlash from social media users questioning his fitness and qualifications to lead one of the country’s big metros.
Amad, a former member of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), was elected by the Johannesburg city council on Friday to replace ousted mayor Mpho Phalatse, a member of the Democratic Alliance (DA).
Several hundreds of comments on Radio 702’s Facebook page noted Islamophobia while others questioned his qualifications and ability to run the city.

PSL fined Pirates R50 000 for watering Jarak ahead of Arrows tie

Orlando Pirates found themselves in hot water with the Premier Soccer League (PSL) for watering down the pitch ahead of their DStv Premiership tie with the Golden Arrows two weeks ago.
Pirates hosted the Arrows at the Orlando Stadium, in a match the Soweto giants won 3-1 with goals from Monnapule Saleng, Terrence Dzvukamanja and Vincent Pule.
PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu has confirmed that the Pirates appeared before the League DC and they have been fined the amount of R50 000 for the offense, with half of the money suspended for a period of 12 months.
Woolworths ‘laughs’ at Checkers international ad

After South Africans heard that Checkers ran two adverts in the London Evening Standard and The Sydney Herald showing off their value proposition, one of Woolworths’ main competitors, couldn’t help but laugh at the controversial ad.
Checkers does not have stores in Sydney, Australia or in London, England so this move has left some consumers confused as to why they ran the ad.
Posting on their Instagram page, Woolworths couldn’t be more flattered.
They posted: “Chuckles. We all know who expats don’t like.
