MANILA, Philippines-The tireless Scottie Thompson will soon be put to the test.

With a baby on the way, the ace of Ginebra is now bracing for the night that sends a monkey wrench to the source of his indefatigable play: Sleep.

But it wasn’t like he thought. He was really excited about it.

“Jinky told me I can focus on basketball. But I’m going to be a dad [soon] and I’m glad to be a part of the baby’s life,” he told reporters with a smile on Sunday night, shortly after helping the Gin Kings to a rousing 116-108 win over Rain or Shine at the Big Dome.

Thompson, the league’s most valuable player, said he has long been preparing for the big task of raising a child.

“As soon as Jinky reached five months, I talked to him about time management,” she said.

“I suggested that after training, he takes care of everything after 12 o’clock in the morning. As soon as I wake up, it’s my turn. When I’m training, he takes it back. I think it can be done with time management,” he said.

Thompson also assured Ginebra fans that he will take care of basketball. His wife is in her seventh month, which means the Gin Kings keeper will only be busy with fatherhood once the conference – where he is the defending champion – ends.

“I think the season is over,” he said. “(Delivery will be around) the last week of April or early May.”

“It should be motivation for me, additional inspiration,” added Thompson. “I just pray that the baby and my wife are safe. I’m excited because we know that your priorities change once the baby is out. And I’m excited to see how I can fulfill my role as a father and a basketball player in my young career.
