‘Cul de Sac’ economic management orientation leads us nowhere – Alan
New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate Alan Kyerematen, has described the economic policies implemented over the years by several governments as a ‘cul de sac’.
Speaking on URA Radio in Bolgatanga on the Upper East leg of his national tour, Mr. Kyerematen pointed out that the narrow focus of continuing to depend on Ghana in chocolate, gold, and some primary raw material exports, is a cul de sac orientation for economic management. which has limited growth in the economy. Doing things the same way over and over produces the same results.
Cocoa, for example, has brought in less than $2 billion a year to the Ghanaian economy every year for the past decade. However, the Presidential Special Initiative (PSI), initiated by Alan Kyerematen, which includes four simple local products, salt, palm oil, cassava and clothing, can generate a combined annual income stream of $60 billion per year.
However, policy distortions and irregular political choices reduce the nation’s capacity to grow and benefit from PSI. Currently, the ten-point strategic growth pillar developed and implemented under Mr. Kyerematen, when he was the Minister of Trade and Industry, has brought 1D1F, the automotive industry, and others.
Speaking to the Grand Transformation Plan (GTP), Mr Kyerematen said the country deserves a leader with a big vision. A vision that moves us beyond the cul de sac into a strategic growth area after the GTP.
Mr. Kyerematen is also responsible for the design, establishment and implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which brings together a market of nearly a billion and a half consumers for producers in a diverse economy necessary to expand opportunities for youth.
In the same programme, Mr. Kyerematen reiterated his desire to modernize the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into a powerful force to push for better public policies and hence better mobilize communities towards opportunities. Not only will he create a business-like Party, capable of producing financial, technical and human resources, but also a big voice in Government appointments, especially at the local level.
The Upper East Region is the tenth region visited by Alan Kyerematen for the Presidential Campaign after Ashanti, Bono East, Bono, Ahafo, Western North, Volta, Eastern, Oti and Northern regions.
