A Federal High Court in Kano, on Monday, released the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Ado Doguwa, who was detained for alleged involvement in the killing of three members of his constituency.
PREMIUM TIMES reported how in the police in Kano Mr. Doguwa was arrested and charged, along with others, for criminal conspiracy, and culpable homicide.
He was also charged with causing grievous bodily harm, causing harm by fire, and causing a nuisance.
The police prosecutor told the court that Mr. Doguwa allegedly committed the offense on February 26 in Tudun Wada Local Government Area of Kano State.
Police said the offense contravened Sections 97, 114, 221,247 and 336 of the Penal Code.
Mr. Doguwa was initially charged to a magistrate court in Kano but his lawyer approached the Federal High Court and sought bail while questioning the magistrate’s jurisdiction to entertain the case.
However, in an exparte application for the enforcement of rights, Mr. Doguwa’s counsel, Nuraini Jimoh, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), asked the court to release the accused on bail because the magistrate’s court lacked jurisdiction. to entertain the case.
The judge, Yunusa Muhammad, granted him bail in the sum of N500m, with the condition that the suspect must furnish two sureties, one of whom shall be a first class traditional ruler and the other shall be a permanent secretary in the federal or state government. civil service.

The judge ordered that the suspect must submit travel documents to the court registry, which can be released upon request if needed for travel. These documents must be sent back when you return from your trip.
The lawmaker was involved in a violent confrontation between members of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) that resulted in the killing of three people and the burning of the opposition party’s campaign office in Tudun Wada. District Government.
Mr. Doguwa, who is running for re-election to represent Tudun Wada, Doguwa federal constituency, is reported to have arrived at the venue to protest the alleged annulment of the results where the crisis warranted.
