Court Grants Shatta Wale’s Request For Settlement
The request of the Lawyer for Charles Nii Armah Mensah popularly known as Shatta Wale for an out of court settlement in the defamation case filed by Lawrence Asiamah Hanson also known as Bulldog has been granted.
Artiste manager, Bulldog has sued dancehall musician, Shatta Wale for defamation.
Bulldog who is the plaintiff seeks damages for defamation and also for the publication of false information against him by the defendant.
“The alleged series of publications that have been made and continue to be made about the Plaintiff are motivated by malicious intent,” said the writ filed by Bulldog Lawyers, Justice Srem-Sai.
In court on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, the plaintiff’s lawyer led by Judge Srem-Sai told the court that the parties have started negotiations for a settlement and that they need a month’s delay.
This, he said, prevented him from filing written submissions as per the court order.
“We would like to pray for a further postponement to try the settlement and depending on the outcome we can formally request an extension of time to file witness statements,” said Dr Srem-Sai in court.
Justice Joseph Adu Agyemang Owusu, who presided over General Jurisdiction 13 of the Accra High Court after hearing the parties encouraged them to settle the matter out of court.
The case was adjourned until April 18, 2023.
Relief
Plaintiff seeks the following relief
1. Declaration from the Court that the series of publications made by the Defendant is particularised in the Statement of Claim that is defamatory to the Plaintiff.
A declaration by the Court that the series of publications made by the Defendant in the Statement of Claim were malicious.
Order of the Court directed to the Defendant on all social media pages or accounts, making the publication in seven (7) consecutive days of the inappropriate retraction and apology for the defamatory words that have been published by the Defendant about the Plaintiff, such retraction and apology for vetted and approved by the Plaintiff’s attorney.
The Court’s order for a continuous injunction restraining the Defendant, his agents, workers, employees and servants from publishing or publishing defamatory words against the Plaintiff.
General damages for defamation.
Special damages for defamation.
Punitive damages for false malicious publication against Plaintiff.
Costs, and such other order or remedy as the Court thinks fit.
