Nana Addo in his speech on the eve of Constitution Day to mark 30 years of Ghana’s Fourth Republic said his government should be credited for some giant steps aimed at ending the menace.
He said: “Without any form of equivocation, my government has carried out, perhaps, the most daring initiative since independence to reform and strengthen the capacity of our institutions to deal with corruption in the public sector.”
He noted that since the Special Prosecutor’s Office was established, the government has prioritized the fight against deep-rooted corruption describing it as “an independent, non-partisan body with relevant professional capabilities and an exclusive mandate to investigate and prosecute acts of corruption.”
“If we seek to prolong our democratic journey, it is very important that we improve transparency and accountability in our governance structure, and build strong institutions that can fight corruption and waste of public funds,” he said.
He further emphasized that he wants to help create a transparent and accountable governance model and culture in Ghana.
