Conservative commentator Charlie Sykes on Friday challenged former Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan for using his role on Fox Corp.’s board.
But it’s just a common silent tactic used by House Speaker Ryan with Donald Trump during his presidency, Sykes said in an essay for The Bulwark.
Ryan’s response was part of a “hive-mind rationalization” on the right “that masquerades as a philosophy: You can serve the greater good by being silent — in a room — and therefore appropriate,” Sykes wrote.
“By staying on the board, Ryan seems to say himself, he will be able to steer the network away from craziness, and from batshit crazy lies about the election,” he added. “But here’s the thing: He’s not.”
“Tucker Carlson and others continue to push their racist Great Replacement Theory, pro-Putin propaganda, vaccine disinformation, and outlandish and baseless conspiracy theories about the election,” he said.
