Compare and contrast UK pension policy with what is happening in France – politicalbetting.com

Over the past few weeks, we have seen incredible TV images from France of demonstrations taking place against the Macron government’s decision to try to raise the retirement age from 64.

The anger was intense as well as the scale of the protests which were bigger than we have seen in the UK.

I find it quite good that France is trying to preserve the timely age of 64 while in the UK the plan is to edge up to 70. That’s a massive difference.

There has been a fair bit of action here in the new year by women who found that their retirement plans were changed by the move to link the retirement date of men and women together. It used to be that women could move at 60 while men at 65. Although there were protests the change came in.

The reason all governments see this is because of the huge cost of pensions in the public purse. This has increased as a result of the general rise in life expectancy.

Will protests stop France’s plans? Probably. Does the UK retire until the age of 70 then that’s how you are
