Commodores’ career bests outlast Yale to open NIT play

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt men’s basketball scored its first 11 points of the game in its 2023 postseason debut, holding on for a 71-62 win over Yale Tuesday in the opening round of the NIT at Memorial Gymnasium.

Tyrin Lawrence scored a career-best 25 points and added seven rebounds for the Commodores (21-14), while Ezra Manjon scored 18 points and Quentin Millora-Brown had seven to go with 13 rebounds.

Vandy will now host Michigan on either Saturday or Sunday in the second round of the tournament.

August Mahoney led the Bulldogs (21-9) with 19 points, with EJ Jarvis providing eight points and eight rebounds and Bex Mbeng recording eight and seven.

Dores limited Yale to 36.4 percent shooting from the field and made 20 of 27 attempts from the free-throw line.
