Collation to commence in Lagos, continue in Ogun Sunday

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that the collection of the results of the governorship election in Lagos State, South-west Nigeria, will begin on Sunday (today).

At Continental Televisiona private television station headquartered in the city, reported that at 11.00am on Saturday, the state Electoral Commissioner, Olusegun Agbaje, announced to journalists that the collection of results would begin at 11.00am on Sunday (today).

Mr. Agbaje told newsmen at the Lagos Gathering Center at the INEC office in the Yaba area of ​​the state.

This is as the Resident Electoral Commissioner in neighboring Ogun State, Niyi Ijalaye, also announced the postponement of the collection of results in the state until 9am, Sunday.

According to Mr. Agbaje, electoral officers in the 20 local government areas of the state have not returned to the state collation centers with the collected results.

Earlier, PREMIUM TIMES had reported the postponement of the governorship and state council elections in the Victoria Garden City area of ​​the state.

INEC said the decision affects 10 polling units located in the community. The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Agbaje, said this while speaking with newsmen on Saturday at the estate.

According to Mr. Agbaje, the corps members assigned as ad hoc staff on Saturday refused to enter the VGC area claiming that they were being held hostage during the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections.

In Ogun, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Ijalaye, said the delay in the collection of governorship and assembly election results until Sunday was due to material damage and attacks on officers by thugs.

Television Channels reported that the State Police Commissioner, Frank Mba, earlier confirmed the arrest of several suspects in connection with the attempt to truncate the election process.
