Three site workers were killed in Aluu community in Rivers State, South-South Nigeria, when a two-storey building they were constructing collapsed.
Chairman of the District Disaster Response Team Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in Rivers, Ngene James, confirmed the incident in a statement issued by the command on Sunday.
He said the NSCDC rescue team was immediately moved to the site for rescue operations as soon as they received the distress call.
“After arriving at the disaster site, we joined a joint rescue operation by the National Emergency Management Agency and its sister security agencies.
“Three workers working at the construction site were killed in the accident.
“Preliminary investigations show that the two-story building collapsed as a result of low quality rods and other materials in its construction,” said Mr. James.

Mr James advises property owners to beware of desperate and careless contractors who only care about their pockets rather than their lives.
“We commend the Ikwerre Local Government Council for mobilizing three pay loaders and logistics in a joint rescue operation,” he said.

The site was cordoned off so investigators could look into the cause of the building’s collapse.
