What fascinates many creators in the world of blockchain and Web3 is the possibility to create, own and earn without intermediaries, and nonfungible tokens (NFTs) have emerged as a catalyst for how this can be done.
In this week’s episode of NFT Steezco-hosts Alyssa Expósito and Ray Salmond chat with Justin and JP Alanis, co-founders of StoryCo – an open media platform – on the prospect of co-creating creators and intellectual property franchises through storytelling and the integration of soulbound tokens – but how?
The make-to-own and fandom trends emerging on the Web3
As creators themselves, the Alanis brothers have an understanding of the challenges that hinder many creators and organizations when it comes to talent, knowledge and resource sharing, compensation and collaboration.

When asked how the do-it-yourself model can be implemented and accessible, the brothers stated that StoryCo has many possibilities for blockchain technology due to its verifiability, accessibility and transparency, but has “abstracted a lot of technology,” said Justin.
In this way, it can reduce the “fatigue” that creators feel when navigating Web3 for the first time and instead make it smooth and “welcoming,” says JP.
JP asserts that more often than not, creators are challenged, because of the more siled centralized work structure to open and decentralized ones.

“I think the best stories are when they start centralized,” commented JP when he explained how it’s easiest to build something and “have momentum behind the idea” to do any “traction”.
A story platform is a common good
The struggle between needing major industry players in the Web3 ecosystem and being authentic is common. Regarding the standards and processes StoryCo has implemented to “do it right,” as Salmond said, Justin commented on the conversation and dialogue that develops in the community and business.
However, Justin stressed that StoryCo’s mission to “legitimize what we do with stories” is ultimately centered on the belief that the platform can be seen as a “public good.”
Recognizing that there is a “tightrope walk” balance between the project and the platform, JP explains that the project is the basis for facilitating attention and structure in the audience or community.
Disco Ball, StoryCo’s profile picture project, is intended to demonstrate the capabilities of an open media platform for creating, franchising and distributing intellectual property.
JP describes StoryCo’s project, like The Disco Ball, like Nintendo, where “a new Mario game follows every console release.” platform – can be given emerging technologies.
