It seems FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino pulled an Irish exit.
On Monday, CNN host Kaitlan Collins said on “Anderson Cooper 360” that things at the White House are so chaotic in the wake of the Jeffrey Epstein files fiasco that President Donald Trump’s aides are reaching out to reporters to figure out what’s going on in their own administration — which includes whether or not Bongino is still working for the FBI.
“[Officials] were texting each other and texting me this morning asking, you know, whether or not they had figured out if he had shown up to work today,” Collins told Cooper, per CNN and in a video obtained by the Daily Beast. “It was still an open question in Washington this morning if he was going to be back at the FBI today.”
Collins went on to say that Bongino did “eventually show up” to work on Monday after failing to show up to the office on Friday and spending his self-created three-day “weekend in Florida.”
Collins noted that although Bongino is “still the deputy director” of the FBI “for right now,” his relationship with the Trump administration “has deteriorated so much that there are officials inside the White House who have not spoken to Dan Bongino in days.”
“I was told the president was very angry with Dan Bongino,” Collins added.
Bongino’s decision to play hooky Friday was likely sparked by an alleged squabble he had with Attorney General Pam Bondi earlier last week. According to reports, Bondi accused Bongino of leaking stories to the media that the FBI was upset about the Epstein case being closed during a meeting on Wednesday. Bongino was so “out-of-control furious” about the confrontation that he threatened “to quit and torch Pam unless she’s fired,” NBC News reports.

The Justice Department announced early last week that it was closing Epstein’s case after reviewing it and finding no proof of a so-called “client list” or that the late child sex-trafficker died by any means other than suicide, which has enraged many on the right.
