The judge ruled that Shell’s current climate policy will contribute to dangerous levels of climate change that will pose a threat to human rights. The government forced the company to change its target from a mere 20% reduction in carbon emissions to a 45% reduction in 2030. But most importantly, the decision says that Shell is also responsible for the emissions of product use by three times. parties.
In response, Shell decided to appeal the Dutch court’s decision in July 2021 and proceed to move its headquarters from the Netherlands to England in January 2022.
