The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, will on Wednesday, 25th February, 2026, swear-in the newly appointed Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Joseph Olubunmi Kayode Oyewole.
The inauguration, which has been scheduled to hold at Courtroom Two, Supreme Court complex, Abuja, by 2pm, is expected to have eminent Justices on the bench in attendance.
Daily Trust reports that the bench of the apex court had depleted recently with the retirement of some Justices upon attainment of the mandatory retirement age.

Checks showed that Justice Oyewole had earlier served as a Justice of the Court of Appeal and Presiding Justice of the Enugu Division, Enugu State prior to elevation to the Supreme Court.
This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the Director of Information and Public Relations of the Apex Court, Festus Akande.
Akande explained that the new Justice would bring his wealth of legal expertise and integrity to the apex court to further enhance its capacity to deliver fair and timely judgments.
He noted that Oyewole’s appointment underscored the commitment of the Nigerian judiciary to upholding the rule of law, ensuring justice and strengthening the bench with experienced and dedicated jurists.
“The Supreme Court of Nigeria remains committed to the principles of justice, fairness, and judicial independence for the benefit of all Nigerians”, the government official stated.
According to him, the inauguration will mark another step in rejuvenating the judiciary and ensuring the continued delivering of justice in line with the highest standards of integrity, competence, and impartiality.
Akande said that all invited guests are to adhere strictly to the court’s protocols and security measures.
