Parliament has denied reports that a Constitutional Instrument seeking to make the Ghana Card the sole registration document for elections has been passed.

A statement from the Parliamentary Public Affairs Directorate explained that the DPR only held a pre-presentation discussion on the CI, to gather input from relevant sources for the drafting of the Constitutional Instrument (CI).

“The attention of the Parliament of Ghana is drawn to a report in the Ghanaian Times which states that Parliament has passed a Constitutional Instrument (CI) to use the Ghana Card as the sole registration document.

“Parliament states categorically that it has not passed the Instrument. In any case, Parliament has not passed the Constitutional Instrument.

“They can only be done by the effluxion of time; that is, after twenty one (21) days the Instrument is placed in the House.
